He also studied at Musik Hochschule Fakult\u00e4t III in Lucerne, Switzerland. He is a member of the Peruvian Association of Musicology, ASPEMUS. Currently he is the academic director and researcher at our Center. Valerio is also professor in the areas of music, musicology, Andean textile theory and Quechua language.<\/p>\n<p>He comes from the Pataque\u00f1a Quechua community in Chumbivilcas \u2013 Cusco. His mother tongue is Quechua and his second language is Spanish. Valerio speaks English and German fluently. His research areas are: culture and society; Andean music and textile. See his publications and research <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apulayabooks.com\/textiles-sistema-politico-andino.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Emerita Bucher Fernandez<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/team2.jpg\" alt=\"team2\" width=\"214\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She is a teacher, sculptor and plastic artist, born in the city of Lucerne, in Switzerland, where she graduated in Education. She also studied plastic arts at the Farbm\u00fchle School of Arts, in Lucerne, as well as at the Superior Art School, in Cusco, Peru, and specialized in stone sculpture. She participated in diverse art expositions, as much in Switzerland, as in Peru.<\/p>\n<p>She worked as a teacher, in several educational centers, in the elementary and secondary teaching levels, in Switzerland. Simultaneously, she participated in documentary movie projects with sociocultural focus.<\/p>\n<p>Her research line is centered on Incan and Pre-Incan art designs and models. She creates sculptures, paintings and mural paintings. In addition, she is devoted to ceramics, and has learned the art of weaving with the \u201c<em>pallay<\/em>\u201d (Pick-up) technique.<\/p>\n<p>In Apulaya, Emerita is part of the Directing Team, and teaches in the pre-Colombian art and Andean mathematics areas. She published her book: \u201cAstronomy in the Andean Textile Art \u2013 Designs and Models of Astronomical Cycles in Pre-Incan Cultures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She fluently speaks German, Spanish and English, and masters French and Italian.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Academic Direction:<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Hanny Fern\u00e1ndez<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/team7.jpg\" alt=\"team7\" width=\"214\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As Academic Director and teacher in Apulaya\u00b4s research area, Hanny has both a Bacheller\u2019s and Master\u00b4s Degrees in Social Anthropology, with diplomas from Cusco\u00b4s San Antonio Abad University. Her Master\u00b4s Degree Thesis is titled: \u201cDevelopment from the Point of View of the Accha Alta and Pomacanchi Community Members\u201d. She also holds a Title of \u201cLicenciatura\u201d from the mentioned university with the Thesis about the \u201cCauses and Effects of the Catholics\u00b4 Conversion to the Baptist Evangelical Church, in the Community of Toccoccori \u2013 Cusco\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hanny comes from the indigenous Community of Pataque\u00f1a, in the Province of Chumbivilcas, Department of Cusco. Her native language is Quechua, and her second language is Spanish. Furthermore, she also fluently speaks English and French.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, she is coursing her Doctorate Degree at Louvain\u00b4s Catholic University, in Belgium. Her research lines are: Rural Education in Southern Peru\u00b4s Andes, and Social and Cultural Changes in the Andean Context.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Teachers and Specialists:<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Apolonia Coronel<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/apolonia.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-sUd9kVOq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom alignleft wp-image-1170\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/apolonia-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"apolonia\" width=\"214\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Head Teacher in charge of the textile area, Apolonia is Master Weaver in the weaving techniques called \u201c<em>pallay<\/em>\u201d (pick-up), using the waist loom, as well as in the braiding techniques. Her specialty encompasses the threads\u00b4 full process (sheering, threading, twisting and washing), in the traditional Andean way, which includes their natural dyeing process.<\/p>\n<p>Apolonia comes from the Community of Pataque\u00f1a, in the Province of Chumbivilcas, and her native language is Quechua, but she also fluently speaks Spanish. Up to about two decades ago, she was a member of her community of origin, and her main activity was agro-shepherding. She is the bearer of the ways of knowing, production of perspectives and modes of signification proper to Andean environment.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Pedro Mendoza<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/pedro.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-sUd9kVOq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom alignleft wp-image-1167\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/pedro-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"pedro\" width=\"214\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He is teacher in Apulaya\u00b4s textile area, and facilitator in field experiences. As a Master Weaver, his specialties encompass the waist loom techniques and Andean-Style Knitting technique, as well as braiding and natural dyeing processes. Furthermore, he is member of his community\u00b4s Weavers\u00b4 Association.<\/p>\n<p>He comes from the Community of Accha Alta, where he assumed the position of <em>Varayoq<\/em> Mayor (\u00b4Carrier of the Staff\u00b4 Authority). At present, he is part of the <em>Kuraq Taytakuna<\/em>; that is, the group of High Ranking Community Members.<\/p>\n<p>He is a native Quechua speaker who also speaks Spanish fluently. As a teacher, he possesses solid methodology and didactics in teaching the textile technique. In the frame of our field experience programs, Pedro is our participants\u00b4 Host, Facilitator and Tutor.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Modesto Fern\u00e1ndez<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/modesto.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-sUd9kVOq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom alignleft wp-image-1171\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/modesto-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"modesto\" width=\"214\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He is Apulaya\u00b4s Advisor and Counselor in Andean cultural and religious matters.<\/p>\n<p>In the sphere of Andean religious specialists, or <em>Wisa<\/em>, his rank is that of <em>Paqo<\/em>. Born in the Community of Pataque\u00f1a, in the Province of Chumbivilcas, he has a very long trajectory as religious specialist, in the Andean tradition and spirituality.<\/p>\n<p>Up to about two decades ago, he was a registered member of his community of origin, where he was working as an agro-shepherd, in parallel with his activities as <em>Paqo<\/em>, or Andean religious specialist.<\/p>\n<p>He is a \u201c<em>Yachaq<\/em>\u201d (Wise Man), in virtue of the fact that he possesses a vast knowledge based on live experience. In <em>Apulaya<\/em>, he is in charge of orientations and counseling, in the Andean cultural and religious frame. As such, he also performs the corresponding religious celebrations, in accordance with the ritual calendar, and gives advice in cultural aspects of original Andean roots.<\/p>\n<p>To communicate, his language of preference is Quechua, but he also fluently speaks Spanish.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Paola Flores<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/paola.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-sUd9kVOq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom alignleft wp-image-1166\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/paola-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"paola\" width=\"214\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Teacher in the textile area, she is an excellent weaver, and her specialization areas are the waist loom, braiding techniques, dyeing techniques, and thread processing.<\/p>\n<p>She won several weaving contests, organized by different local institutions. One of them was the Weavers\u00b4 Competition, organized by the locality of Lamay\u00b4s Municipality, in the Incas\u00b4 Sacred Valley, Department of Cusco, in which Paola\u00b4s textiles won first place for their iconographic quality and complexity.<\/p>\n<p>For the moment, as Master Weaver, she is member of her community\u00b4s Weavers\u00b4 Association.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Alicia Layme<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/alicia.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-sUd9kVOq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom alignleft wp-image-1169\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/alicia-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"alicia\" width=\"214\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Teacher in the textile area, Alicia comes from the Community of Accha Alta, and is Paola\u00b4s daughter. She started weaving when she was seven years old, given that she comes from a family of excellent weavers, in her community.<\/p>\n<p>Alicia is a Master in her region\u00b4s different <em>\u201cpallay\u201d<\/em> (pick-up) techniques, as well as in the Andean-Style Knitting and <em>\u201ckharka<\/em>\u201d techniques. In the case of group teachings, more specifically, Alicia helps us by giving the weaving and natural dyeing lessons.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Holly Wissler<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.apulaya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/team3.jpg\" alt=\"team3\" width=\"214\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She holds a dual masters degree from University of Idaho in Flute Performance and Music History. She received her Ph.D. from Florida State University in ethnomusicology. Since 2003 she has conducted research and participated in the indigenous musical rituals of the Quechua community of Q\u2019eros. Her most recent research has focused on the lowland Queros Wachiperi community culture and music.
